Our Story
Tom and Deb Mortimer began their search for the perfect vineyard site in 1996. A year later, Tom’s passion for wine collecting and his love of Oregon merged with the purchase of 28 acres of raw hillside property. Extensive clearing and land preparation followed and in 1999 the first 6 acres of Pinot Noir were planted. Today, the Le Cadeau estate vineyard is home to 18 clones of Pinot Noir and 7 clones of Chardonnay vines residing on 16 acres of broken volcanic basalt ground.
There are over 3 billion cases of wine produced in the word each year. Most are unremarkable – only a tiny fraction are exceptional. Great wine is a marriage of attributes: Soil, Aspect, Vines, Farming, and Winemaking. There can be no weak links. The Le Cadeau story is about 25 years of refinement – a continual quest to produce the finest wines while respecting that you, out consumers, will be the final judge of our efforts.
